The Inland Rail Project

Inland Rail is a nation-building infrastructure project, spanning three states, which is bringing benefits during construction and beyond. When fully complete, it will cut rail freight travel time between Melbourne and Brisbane by almost a third, from 33 hours to less than 24 hours, making it competitive with road.

Below are a range of images that display the general purpose of Inland Rail as a project, such as the types of freight trains that travel on the line. These trains include ‘double-stacked freight trains’, which can carry two layers of containers, one stacked on the other.
