Broadford truck haulage route
Timing: 27 April to 12 May 2026
We’re lowering the rail tracks under Short Street bridge in Broadford.
Between Monday 27 April and Tuesday 12 May, about 100,000 tonnes of materials will be moved between the rail corridor and the project site at 231 High Street.
To enable the safe and efficient haulage of materials, Marchbanks Road bridge and a section of High Street will be closed during high impact truck movements. A detour will be in place via the Hume Freeway Clonbinane interchange.
Closures will be in place from 7pm 28 April to 7am 5 May, with the exception of daytime access (7am-7pm) on 30 April and 1 May. Refer to electronic signage for latest updates.
Trucks transporting materials between the rail corridor and the Marchbanks Road project site will travel along three haulage routes and enter the rail line at Last Street, Jamieson Street, Short Street and the Broadford Bowls Club.
Around 80 trucks will be travelling along the haulage route.
Service lanes either side of High Street will remain open and access to properties will be maintained. Local detours will be in place.
Traffic management and electronic signage will be regularly updated to keep the community informed of changes and support the safe movement of traffic through Broadford.

Hamilton Street bridge overnight closures
Timing: 16 to 18 April 2026
Hamilton Street bridge will be closed overnight from 8pm-6am between Thursday 16 April and Friday 17 April to undertake roadworks, line-marking and drainage on the new bridge.
An additional overnight closure may be required from 8pm-6am between Friday 17 April and Saturday 18 April. Refer to traffic management and electronic signage for updates on bridge closures.
A detour will be in place via Sunday Creek Road or the Hume Freeway. Please allow an additional 20-minutes travel time or 30 minutes during peak times.
Other traffic changes will be in place, including temporary single-lane shuttle flow and traffic management along High Street and Hamilton Street as required.

Hamilton Street bridge

We’ve replaced the Hamilton Street bridge with a new higher structure and lowered the rail tracks to provide sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.
As we complete our works, there will be ongoing changes to traffic conditions.

Short Street bridge overnight closures
Timing: 24-27 March 2026 and April as required
Short Street bridge will be closed overnight while we undertake road and bridge works and install permanent bridge barriers.
Overnight closures will occur from 8pm-5am, Tuesday 24 March to Thursday 26 March. Additional overnight closures may be required in April.
Closures will not occur during Hamilton Street bridge closures. Refer to electronic signage for updates.

Short Street bridge
Timing: Current
We’re replacing Short Street bridge with a new higher structure and lowering the rail tracks to increase clearance under the bridge to support double-stacked freight trains. As we construct the new bridge, traffic conditions around the worksite will change.
Traffic changes
- To access the area needed to construct the new bridge, one lane will be closed on the Short Street bridge. Single lane shuttle flow and temporary traffic lights combined with traffic management will be in place.
- A small section of Short Street will be closed, with a detour via the High Street service road. Vehicles will not be able to turn directly into Short Street from High Street.
- To support traffic flow and reduce congestion, a road closure will be in place at Sutherland Street with a detour via Jamieson and High streets.
- A road closure to support traffic flow will be in place at Rupert Street (eastern side) with a detour via Lorine Parade.
- A road closure to support traffic flow will be in place at Rupert Street (western side) with a detour via Burges Lane, Cameron Parade and Mia Mia Road.
Road closures and detours will be implemented in a staged approach as works progress. Please follow signage and drive safely during this time.

Short Street pedestrian detour
Timing: Current
We’re undertaking works near the Short and Rupert streets intersection in Broadford.
During these works, there will be no pedestrian access between Rupert and Short streets on the northern side of the intersection.
A pedestrian detour will be in place via Lorine Parade. Please follow all traffic directions.
