What is track slewing?

Track slewing involves unclipping and cutting of the existing rail track, moving the track horizontally and rebuilding the relocated rail sections.

Inland Rail is a nation building project that will transform how goods are moved around Australia, generating opportunities for our regions and our economy, now and into the future. In Victoria, works will be undertaken along the North East line to increase clearances to enable double-stacked freight trains to pass safely.

What can I expect?

Between 6am on Saturday, 9 March and 6pm on Monday, 11 March, there is a rail possession where trains will not be running and works will take place around-the-clock, including throughout the night.

The work will take place within the rail corridor, with minimal impact to road users.

Coaches will replace trains on:

  • Monday, 4 March
  • from 6am Saturday, 9 March to 6pm Monday, 11 March.

For train service changes, visit www.vline.com.au.

At the works site, there will be:

  • Site establishment and deliveries to site from Monday, 26 February
  • Construction work from 6am-6pm on Monday, 4 March
  • Round-the-clock works between 6am Saturday 9 March and 6pm Monday 11 March.

Work includes:

  • Approved vegetation removal within the project area, if required
  • Ground excavations in various locations
  • Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
  • Noise from construction machinery and equipment operating onsite
  • Use of generators and light towers during night works. These will be directed away from residential properties.

Machinery used

Heavy and light vehicles including trucks, cranes loaders, excavators, track tampers and rollers will be used within the work areas.

How we’re managing impacts

  • Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required
  • Reducing vehicles required onsite and construction traffic near the station
  • Environmental controls will be in place
  • Directing light towers away from residential properties.
