Euroa’s new Handbury Street pedestrian underpass starts to take shape

Large sections of Euroa’s new safer and accessible Handbury Street pedestrian underpass were lifted into place in January, as the Inland Rail project swings into action in 2026.

A 450-tonne crane installed six concrete sections, each weighing between 26-28 tonne.

The new 13.5-metre long Handbury Street underpass will be light and bright at 3.3 metres high and 4.7 metres wide.

Accessible by stairs and ramps and featuring improved cyclist access, the new underpass is one of two new compliant connections being constructed as part of the upgraded Euroa Station Precinct.

A new pedestrian underpass at the railway station is also being installed and will include lifts, ramps and stairs.

Inland Rail is modifying the station precinct to provide sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to use the line.

When complete, there will be a new Anderson Street vehicle underpass, two new pedestrian underpasses, a second station platform, additional car parking, a community forecourt and a network of pathways to better connect the parklands and open spaces.
