Work being done

Regionerate Rail will undertake utilities investigations in the Washpool and Kagaru area (see map overleaf) from late April 2023 for a period of three months. Utility investigations are generally in a road reserve or utility easement.

Investigation findings will inform ongoing design refinements for the Gowrie to Kagaru section of Inland Rail.

What are utility investigations?

  • Utilities investigations will occur using vacuum excavation and ground penetrating radars.
  • They identify and locate underground utilities to determine how they interface with the proposed rail alignment.
  • The ground penetrating radar determines the existence and horizontal position of utility infrastructure.
  • Vacuum excavation is the most accurate form of underground utility location and involves exposing the subsurface utility to determine the length and depth of the infrastructure.
  • Vacuum excavation potholes are likely to be 10m to 25m apart.

What can I expect?

  • Potential temporary footpath, verge and lane closures in traffic-controlled areas with minimal disruption.
  • Potential high noise activity when cutting pavements or using vacuum trucks.
  • Traffic management will be in place to minimise disruption.
  • Technicians on-site operating survey equipment.

Machinery used

  • Ground penetrating radar survey equipment,
  • Vacuum truck.

How we’re managing impacts

  • For the safety of our workers and the public, minor traffic control measures will be in place in locations where work is adjacent to live traffic. This will see temporary reductions in speed limits through use of appropriate signage and on the ground traffic control, and footpath, verge and lane closures.
  • High noise activities will be between 9:00am to 4:00pm.
