Construction Manager

About the opportunity

Play a critical role in the final phase of a nationally significant project

Fixed Term | FIFO 14:7 Roster | Inland Rail (I2S section)

Inland Rail is entering a critical phase — and we are looking for an experienced Construction Manager to help complete the delivery of the Illabo to Stockinbingal (I2S) Project.

This is not a business-as-usual role. It’s an opportunity to step into a live, high-profile project and provide the leadership, discipline, and technical oversight required to drive construction through to completion — safely, decisively, and to plan.

About the Role:

As Construction Manager, you will take accountability for client side on-site construction delivery across rail, road, and bridge works, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, within budget, and on schedule.
Working closely with your team of Site Supervisors, contractors, project leadership, and engineering teams, you will lead site execution and resolve the complex challenges that come with delivering a project at this stage of its lifecycle.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

Lead the Site

  •  Provide visible, hands-on leadership across all site activities
  • Manage a team of site supervisors on day-day delivery across the site

Drive Safe & Compliant Delivery

  • Champion a safety-first culture aligned to Inland Rail’s zero-harm commitment

Manage Construction & Contract Execution

  • Lead daily site operations, including inspections and commissioning, managing contractor performance, progress claims and variations, and resolving technical issues and disputes

Own Technical Outcomes

  • Lead constructability reviews, ensuring alignment to design intent while supporting RFIs and assurance processes, and driving closure of defects and non-conformances

Control Delivery & Performance

  • Monitor schedules and critical milestones while reporting on progress and risks, and proactively managing and escalating risks through mitigation strategies

Collaborate Across the Project

  • Build strong working relationships with contractors and stakeholders

About you

You are a capable and collaborative construction professional with experience delivering major rail or linear infrastructure projects.

What you'll bring:

  • Significant experience (15+ years) delivering major infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in rail / road / bridge construction
  • Proven capability leading site-based delivery teams in complex environments
  • Sound commercial judgement and experience managing contractor performance
  • Ability to clearly communicate risk, progress, and delivery challenges to senior stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualifications in Construction, Engineering, or Project Management (or equivalent experience)

What you’ll be joining

  • You will join one of the largest infrastructure programs in Australia.
  • This project will generate thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in local investment, boosting regional economies and communities right along the alignment.
  • Inland Rail is proud to have over 40% female representation and we would like to see these numbers grow.
  • Inland Rail is an Agile working environment in our State-of-the Art office embracing flexible working conditions.
