Environment Advisor - Calvert to Kagaru

About the opportunity

Inland Rail is seeking an Environment Advisor Approvals to assist with environmental and planning statutory approvals for the Calvert to Kagaru project. The position is based in Brisbane and reports to the Principal Environment Advisor within the North of Narromine Project Development team.

This role is ideal for an environmental professional who is enthusiastic about working in approvals, compliance, consultant coordination, and stakeholder engagement. The advisor will play a vital role in supporting environmental impact assessments, approvals delivery, and post-approval compliance throughout both feasibility and construction phases. This opportunity is a two year fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Principal Environment Advisor(s) in the implementation of environmental and sustainability policies, conducting impact assessment work, and managing secondary approval processes.
  • Provide technical guidance regarding environmental impacts, mitigation strategies, and the development of planning or environmental management documents and procedures.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate effective environmental risk management and achieve approvals objectives.
  • Collaborate with consultants and subject matter experts to support environmental risk and impact assessments, management plans, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Contribute to environmental studies and broader management activities, ensuring compliance with relevant planning and environmental requirements.
  • Review consultant recommendations, ensuring their accuracy, practicality, and proper communication to stakeholders.
  • Assist in maintaining environmental registers and provide support for reporting, auditing, and site inspection activities.
  • Participate in GIS information management, environmental management system documentation, and compliance-related activities throughout all project stages.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Experience in delivering environmental scope during construction, including monitoring, auditing, compliance, incident management, and reporting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Queensland and Federal environmental legislation, with knowledge of project approvals processes.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation and management of post-primary approval requirements.
  • Strong skills in written communication and analytics, with confidence using Microsoft Office and related systems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Possession of a Class C driver’s licence.

Desirable experience

  • Candidates with experience in major projects, particularly within the transport, logistics, infrastructure, or utilities sectors, will be highly regarded.
