McConnell Dowell will undertake 2.6 kilometres of track slewing works within the rail corridor between High Street and Avenel Road, Seymour to create the horizontal clearance required for double-stacked freight trains.

Work being done

McConnell Dowell will undertake 2.6 kilometres of track slewing works within the rail corridor between High Street and Avenel Road, Seymour to create the horizontal clearance required for double-stacked freight trains.

Track slewing involves unclipping and cutting the existing rail track, moving the track horizontally and rebuilding the relocated rail sections.

Works include:

  • Cutting rail at required locations
  • Slewing / moving track
  • Welding, tamping, grinding and track assessment.

What can I expect?

  • Round-the-clock works from 6am Saturday 14 September to 3pm Monday 16 September
  • Approved vegetation removal within the project area, if required
  • Ground excavations in various locations
  • Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
  • Noise from construction machinery and equipment operating onsite
  • Use of generators and light towers during night works. These will be directed away from residential properties.

Machinery used

  • Hi-rail plant such as excavators, track tampers and tippers
  • Heavy and light vehicles which include trucks, loaders, excavators and rollers will be used within the work areas
  • Hand tools such as rail saws and welding equipment.

How we're managing impacts

  • Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required
  • Reducing vehicles required onsite and construction traffic near the station
  • Environmental controls will be in place
  • Directing light towers away from residential properties.
