Tycannah Creek to Gurley Creek ballast brushing
From Tuesday 8 February 2022, our contractor Trans4m Rail will temporarily shutdown the rail corridor between Tycannah Creek to Gurley Creek in preparation the rail possession starting in April 2021.
Work being done
Preliminary works including ballast brushing, between Tycannah Creek and Gurley Creek, south of Moree.
Works will occur between 7am and 6pm Monday to Sunday. Please note, Sunday working hours are permitted under the project’s environmental approvals.
Residents are urged to take care at level crossings as high rail excavators and construction vehicles will be operating.
What is ballast brushing?
Ballast brushing sweeps excess ballast from the track. This allows easier access to the rail clips in preparation for rail stripping from 1 April 2022. To complete the works, a large broom is attached to the front of a high rail excavator that travels the alignment at walking speed.
What can I expect
- High rail excavators with a broom box attachment travelling the alignment at walking speed
- Changed traffic conditions will be in place at level crossings
- Delivery of materials and equipment
- Some of these works may be noisy and mitigation measures will be in place.
Some minor traffic delays are expected. Motorists are urged to follow traffic conditions on site.
Other works during the shutdown will include:
- Fencing and landscaping
- Minor construction activities
- Survey works
- Signalling installation.
Machinery used
- High rail excavator
- trucks
- loaders
- vacuum
- water trucks will be used within the work zone.
How we’re managing impacts
To mitigate associated noise, out of hours work for ballast brushing will NOT occur in this section of the rail alignment
- Traffic controls will be in place, where required
- Water carts will be on site to wet down areas to assist in managing dust.
Thank you for your patience and1 cooperation while we carry out this important work.
