Work being done

McConnell Dowell will install the new pedestrian underpass at the Wangaratta Railway Station between 10pm Friday 22 September and 3pm Wednesday 27 September.

This will involve cutting the existing rail track and station platform, bulk excavation for the new underpass, drainage works and installation of the concrete underpass sections.

After the underpass sections are installed the station platform and rail track will be reinstated.

Most of the works will be within or near the station precinct, with minimal impact to road users. Access to the station building will be maintained.

What can I expect?

  • approved vegetation removal within the project area
  • ground excavations in various locations
  • trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the work site
  • noise from construction machinery and equipment operating onsite
  • changes to pedestrian access via the Docker Street footbridge are in place
  • use of generators and light towers during night works. These will be directed away from residential properties.

Passenger service changes

These works will occur during a broader track possession between 23-25 September, that will see the closure of the Sydney to Melbourne rail line.

Between 26-27 September, the Albury Line trains will not stop at Wangaratta Station. A temporary timetable will be in place for passengers travelling to and from Wangaratta.
