Utility relocation, vegetation removal and investigations, Wagga Wagga, April to September 2025

Utilities contractors will undertake works on behalf of Inland Rail to relocate gas and electricity in the vicinity of Edmondson Street, Wagga Wagga between April and September 2025.

Work being done

Martinus is working with a range of subcontractors and utility authorities to complete the works, including APA, and Essential Energy.

Overview of works

  • Relocating existing and installing a new gas pipeline between Fox Street and Macleay Street
  • Removing existing and installing new electricity poles on Edmondson Street and Little Best Street
  • Approved tree and vegetation removal within and adjacent to the rail corridor.
  • Additional approved tree and vegetation removal will be undertaken as required for the Edmondson Bridge construction
  • Surveys and non-destructive digging (NDD) to locate, map and understand the ground conditions in and around Edmondson Street precinct, including roads along Little Best, Erin, Railway and Macleay streets
  • Excavation and under bore work within the temporary site compound adjacent to Railway Street

These utility relocation works will be undertaken in preparation for the Edmondson Street Bridge demolition works scheduled to occur during the ARTC September 2025 Rail Possession window.

Temporary traffic changes near you

Traffic management will be in place on streets where required to ensure the safety of all road users and our workers.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, obey signs, traffic control, and allow extra travel time during this work.

What can I expect?

  • Temporary traffic management at Donnelly Avenue and Little Best Street, while we carry out these works. Access for local residents and properties will be maintained under traffic control
  • Temporary parking disruptions along Donnelly Avenue, Little Best, Erin, Railway and Macleay Streets, while we carry out these works
  • Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near work areas
  • Delivery of materials and equipment to site
  • Temporary service interruptions may be required. Impacted residents will be notified in advance
  • Construction machinery and equipment operating on site
  • Nearby residents may hear some noise and notice vibration during this time
  • Additional construction vehicles and workers can also be expected in the area.

Machinery used

Equipment used for work includes but is not limited to hand-held tools, cranes, cable pulling apparatus, under boring machine, loaders, non-destructive digging truck,
vibrating rollers, excavators, woodchipper, drilling rig, water carts, survey equipment, power washer, skid steer, traffic management equipment, heavy and light vehicles.

How we're managing impacts

  • Temporary traffic management will be in place where required and property access will be maintained for all impacted residents
  • An arborist will assess all trees
  • All areas will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler for wildlife before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until the wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal
  • Works programmed to best minimise disruptions to local road network
  • Use of non-tonal reversing alarms on all equipment and turning off equipment when not in use
  • Instructing workers to keep noise to a minimum and being respectful of our neighbours
  • Works will be monitored to ensure compliance with Project Approval Conditions
  • Cancellation of works
  • Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
