Anderson Street bridge closure and demolition works, Euroa, May 2025
Inland Rail contractors will begin construction of the new vehicle underpass, which requires the closure of the Anderson Street bridge in May.
Work being done
- The Anderson Street bridge will close in early May for the construction of the new vehicle underpass
- Demolition of the bridge and Handbury Street pedestrian underpass will begin on the northern side of the rail corridor
- A temporary footpath will be built along Elliot Street for use once the Handbury Street pedestrian underpass closes in late May
- Installation of new street lighting along Birkett Street
- Approved tree and vegetation removal will continue within the project area where necessary
- Establishment of a project worksite within the railway yard and on the western side of Elliot Street will continue.
What can I expect?
- Works 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm Saturdays
- Extended hours of work, Monday 26 May, 3am-8pm
- Closure of Anderson Street bridge with vehicle detours via Brock and Birkett streets
- Closure of Handbury Street underpass with a pedestrian detour via Elliot Street and the Frost Street pedestrian underpass
- Closure of Elliot Street between Scott and De Boos streets
- Access changes to the railway station (see map for details)
- Deliveries of construction materials and equipment
- Nearby residents may experience some noise and vibration.
Machinery used
Cranes, excavators, trucks, earthmoving plant, compaction roller, woodchipper, hydraulic grab, jack hammers, road and concrete saws, rail train and workers using hand tools/survey equipment, traffic management equipment/signage.
How we’re managing impacts
- Traffic management and reduced speeds
- Detour and directional signage will be in place
- Environmental controls in place for noise, dust and vibration
- An arborist and qualified wildlife handler will assess all trees before removal. If fauna is encountered, works will cease and animals safely relocated.
Cancellation of works
Works can be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.

Access changes to the Railway Station
- Vehicle access to the station will be maintained from the southern end of Anderson Street until late May.
- For approximately one week access to the station will only be via the temporary station platform access point at the corner of Rowe and Frost streets. Two accessible car parks will be available.
- Bus pick-up and drop-off points won’t be affected.
- Directional signage will be in place, please allow additional time for pedestrian detours.
