Ground investigation and vegetation removal works Wandong 12 – 31 March 2025
Ground condition surveys, approved tree and vegetation removal and removal of old signalling infrastructure will be undertaken in Wandong between 12 and 31 March 2025.
Work being done
- Surveys will be undertaken to locate, map and understand the ground conditions and underground services in and around Wandong, including roads along Broadford-Wandong Road, Wandong Road and Rail Street and within the rail corridor. These surveys are expected to continue throughout the year
- Approved tree and vegetation removal and installation of delineation fencing within the rail corridor. Additional approved tree and vegetation removal will be undertaken later this year
- Removal of old signalling infrastructure including overhead wires on a signalling pole in Pickett Walk and within the rail corridor
- Establishing a temporary site at Wandong Station carpark. Approximately 30 car spaces will be temporarily unavailable from Wednesday 12 March to Friday 28 March.
What can I expect?
- Survey works 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm Saturdays
- Track possession works 7am-7pm, Friday 21 March to Tuesday 25 March
- To ensure the safety of pedestrian and workers, a section of Pickett Walk will temporarily be closed while removing the old signal wires. The old signal pole at Pickett Walk will be maintained
- Traffic management in some locations where works are occurring close to roads
- Broadford-Wandong Road bridge will be reduced to a single lane with shuttle-flow during tree and vegetation removal.
- Access to residential properties will be maintained
- Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
- Medium levels of noise with some high levels of noise at times. Nearby residents may notice some vibration
- Nearby residents can expect some additional construction workers and vehicles in the area.
Track possession – line closure
A track possession is when the rail line is closed to trains to allow workers to safely carry out construction, upgrade or maintenance works. For passenger service changes visit, vline.com.au or transportnsw.info
Cancellation of works
Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
Machinery used
Non-destructive digging truck, small truck mounted drill rig, excavators, tipper trucks, cranes, support vehicles, compaction rollers, loaders, graders, workers using hand tools and survey equipment, traffic management equipment and signage.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic management and reduced road speeds
- An arborist will assess all trees before removal
- All areas will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler for wildlife before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until a wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal.
