Vegetation removal, investigations and fencing, Hume Freeway, Seymour, 22-24 March 2025
Vegetation removal, investigations and fence installation works will occur in and around the rail corridor near Seymour between 22 March and 24 March 2025 in preparation for future rail works.
Work being done
Investigation works
- Locating and mapping underground services and ground conditions using non-destructive digging (NDD)
- Survey and monitoring of the existing bridge structure conditions.
Vegetation removal
- Approved trees and vegetation will be removed from within the rail corridor to prepare for future rail works.
Fence installation
- Temporary delineation fencing will be installed beside the rail corridor to provide a safe working space for future rail works.
What can I expect?
- Extended hours of work 7am-7pm from Saturday 22 to Monday 24 March
- Traffic management will be in place at the railway crossing near 232 Kookaburra Lane to facilitate rail corridor access from this location
- Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
- Nearby residents may hear some noise during this time and can expect some additional construction workers and vehicles in the area.
Machinery used
NDD truck, hi-rail excavators, elevated work platforms, woodchipper, trucks and support vehicles and workers with hand tools.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic management and reduced speeds
- An arborist will assess all trees before removal
- All areas will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler for wildlife before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until a wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal.
Cancellation of works
Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
