Site establishment and surveys, Wandong, May 2025
Inland Rail contractors will establish project worksites and undertake surveys and investigations in Wandong during May.
Work being done
Site establishment at 31-33 Broadford-Wandong Road and 765 Wandong Road
Sections of vacant land close to the works area are being used for storage of plant, materials and worker facilities. Works will include:
- Constructing a hardstand to provide a firm and solid surface
- Installing portable site sheds for worker facilities
- Utility connection
- Installing delineation fencing
- Piling pads will be constructed by compacting the ground where the new bridge will be built, to provide a stable works area
- Approved tree and vegetation removal at locations close to the rail corridor and along the road reserve near the Wandong works area.
Surveying and investigations
- Surveys and investigations will be undertaken to understand local ground conditions and to locate and map underground services at various locations, including along Broadford-Wandong Road, Wandong Road, Rail Street and within the rail corridor
- These investigation works are expected to continue throughout the year.
What can I expect?
- Works 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and 7am-1pm Saturdays
- Extended work hours Monday 26 May 4.30am-7.30pm. Impacted residents will be contacted prior.
- Traffic management in some locations where works are occurring close to roads
- Reduced speed limits of 40km/h near works
- Medium levels of noise with some high levels of noise at times. Nearby residents may notice some vibration.
Cancellation of works
Works can sometimes be cancelled at short notice depending on weather and other factors. Should this occur, works will be rescheduled.
Machinery used
Non-destructive digging truck, small truck mounted drill rig, excavators, tipper trucks, cranes, compaction rollers, support vehicles, loaders, graders, concrete trucks, workers using hand tools and survey equipment, traffic management equipment and signage.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic management and reduced road speeds
- Environmental controls in place for noise, dust and vibration
- An arborist will assess all trees before removal
- All vegetation will be inspected by a qualified wildlife handler before tree removal works commence. If fauna is encountered, works will cease until a wildlife handler has safely relocated the animal.
