Work being done

Inland Rail contractor McConnell Dowell will undertake track maintenance works within the rail corridor between Rowan Street and the Ovens River on Monday 28 October between 2am and 7pm.

The works are required because of the realignment of the tracks at Wangaratta Station.
Works will include:

  • Tamping, which is the process of packing the ballast tightly under the railway tracks. It involves a tamping machine which will move along sections of track to set the rail, sleepers and ballast into place to ensure the track retains its level and durability.
