Inland Rail contractor McConnell Dowell will undertake track maintenance works within the rail corridor between Rowan Street and the Ovens River on Monday 28 October between 2am and 7pm.
Work being done
Inland Rail contractor McConnell Dowell will undertake track maintenance works within the rail corridor between Rowan Street and the Ovens River on Monday 28 October between 2am and 7pm.
The works are required because of the realignment of the tracks at Wangaratta Station.
Works will include:
- Tamping, which is the process of packing the ballast tightly under the railway tracks. It involves a tamping machine which will move along sections of track to set the rail, sleepers and ballast into place to ensure the track retains its level and durability.
What can I expect?
- Works within the rail corridor, Monday 28 October, 2am-7pm
- Noise from rail machinery and equipment operating onsite
- Trucks and other vehicles entering and exiting the station work compound
- Use of generators and light towers during night works. These will be directed away from residential properties.
Passenger service changes
Coaches will replace trains been Southern Cross and Albury. For details, visit vline.com.au
Machinery used
- Hi-rail plant such track tampers. Hand tools such as rail saws and welding equipment.
How we're managing impacts
- Traffic management will be in place to ensure safe access for all road users and pedestrians, where required when tamper is going over the Rowan Street rail bridge.
- Directing light towers away from residential properties.
