The installation of two 50-tonne steel girders will form the backbone of the new Green Street bridge and marks significant progress in the Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury project.

The main girders and 15 cross girders will be delivered to site in early September.

The two main girders are 32m long, 2.3m high and 0.8m wide, and the 15 cross girders weighing 3.03-tonne each, are 10.4m long, 0.765m high, and 0.455m wide.

Inland Rail B2A Delivery Director Ed Walker said the bridge deck would be assembled onsite and lifted into place with a 650-tonne crawler crane in mid-September.

“Delivery of the 32-metre main girders may cause some traffic disruption, so we will aim to transfer them to the site outside peak commuting hours,” Mr Walker said.

“We thank the community for their patience and understanding as we push ahead with this important project.”

Work to assemble the crawler crane will begin before the end of August, ahead of the track possession from Saturday, September 14 to Monday, September 16.
