About the opportunity

We’re seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Civil and Roads to provide program-wide design assurance and technical leadership across Inland Rail’s nationally significant infrastructure program.

This senior role sits within Inland Rail’s central engineering function and is responsible for conducting high-level design reviews, providing authoritative technical advice, and ensuring civil and road designs are safe, compliant, optimised and aligned to Inland Rail and ARTC requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake high-level reviews and assurance of civil & roads designs including roads, earthworks, drainage, pavements, level crossings and interfaces
  • Ensure compliance with ARTC, Australian Standards, Austroads and relevant road authority requirements
  • Provide expert engineering advice to project teams, designers and contractors across design and construction
  • Identify, assess and manage technical and safety risks, including level crossing and road interface risks
  • Support construction delivery through RFIs, design clarifications and methodology reviews
  • Lead technical engagement with ARTC, road authorities, councils and other stakeholders
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, briefs and governance papers

About you

You’re a senior technical authority with deep civil & roads expertise and a collaborative, solutions-focused mindset. You challenge the norm using first principles and evidence-based engineering and you understand how technical decisions impact scope, time and cost at a program level.

Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in civil/roads design, review and assurance on major infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of relevant standards and road authority requirements
  • Experience with level crossing design and risk assessment (e.g. ALCAM highly regarded)
  • Confidence influencing stakeholders and leading complex technical outcomes
  • Degree in Civil Engineering; Chartered / RPEQ (or eligibility) desirable
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
