Inland Rail is a once-in-a-generation project that will complete the backbone of Australia’s freight rail network. It will enhance supply chains by providing a transit time of 24 hours or less for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane. Inland Rail will connect regional Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland to markets more efficiently, drive substantial cost savings for producers and consumers, and deliver significant economic benefits. Inland Rail is the largest freight rail infrastructure project in Australia and one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the world.

About the Position

The primary objective of the Inland Rail IT Business Analyst is to act as the conduit between business, technical teams, vendor, and various stakeholders to enable the business to implement cost effective technology solutions.

This role’s primary responsibility is to facilitate and ensure the successful and efficient domain migration/transition of email addresses and identity management. This will see you working closely with project managers, technical resources, vendors, and business stakeholders to develop and document all aspects of business process, requirements, impacts and solutions.

Reporting to the ICT Contracts and Solutions Manager your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including IT teams, project managers, and end-users, to gather and analyse the impacts related to changing a user’s primary email addresses.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of existing workflows and processes to assess potential impacts and dependencies of the email address change.
    Identify, review and document current
  • Identity management systems and procedures, evaluating their readiness for the proposed changes.
  • Work closely with technical teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Proactively identify risks and issues related to the email address change, developing mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to communicate requirements, gather feedback, and ensure stakeholders are informed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support system testing, defining test scenarios and validating solutions, ensuring functional and non-functional requirements are met.

As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate significant experience as a Business Analyst or Technical BA in IT projects, preferably involving email systems and identity management coupled with:

  • Strong understanding of workflow analysis and business process mapping techniques.
  • Experience in identifying and managing risks and issues within complex technical projects.
  • Solid knowledge of identity management principles, including user provisioning, authentication, and access control.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and concepts.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
