The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

Assist the Senior Project Engineer(s) in the delivery of the Inland Rail Programme and nominated projects to be delivered within scheduled timeframes, within budget and in a safe manner.


  • RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the planning, design development and delivery of the A2P Enhancement projects in accordance with IRPL’s requirements
  • Coordinate with the Design & Engineering Team to address technical queries, compliance and value for money outcomes
  • Coordinate the inputs of the internal support disciplines such as stakeholder & communications, safety, environmental, project controls and commercial with the A2P Enhancement Contractor’s activities
  • Review and develop scope, program, cost, and safety inputs for work packages related to the Contractor’s activities and validate their implementation
  • Conduct qualitative review of the Contractor’s safety, construction and quality documentation against the requirements of contract and standards
  • Contribute to project and Program safety requirements and initiatives, and act in a safe manner befitting the safety requirements and culture
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of Inland Rail projects in accordance with ARTC & IRPL standards on time and within budget allocations
  • Assist in the resolution of site related construction and engineering issues as they relate to compliance and contract performance including reporting on scope deviations and assessing actual variation impacts
  • Contribute to the implementation of detailed Project Management Plans
  • Provide input into the quantitative and qualitative reports regarding the status and performance of components of the Inland Rail projects including preparing various technical and evaluation reports (project performance, technical evaluations, etc.)
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating the performance of nominated Inland Rail projects against KPI’s
  • Assist in the preparation of contract documentation and submissions to gain approvals
  • Assist in the administration of contracts (assessment of payment claims, variations, etc.)
  • Assist in managing financial forecasting and reports on allocated projects
  • Undertake site inspections and liaising with consultants and engineers
  • Undertake, from time to time, any other tasks as may be required from the A2P Enhancements leadership team

About you

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Provide input into reports to the Project Director / Senior Project Manager about resources, plant and equipment requirements for components of the nominated Inland Rail projects to facilitate resourcing according to project management plans
  • Ensure that safety policies and procedures are complied with
    Ensure fair and equitable workplace practices and behaviours are complied with, creating a discrimination free workplace in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Ensure compliance with ARTC’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities
  • Promote a safety culture within the team to conform with current Work Health and Safety (WH&S) and relevant Rail Safety legislation
  • Ensure that injuries are properly reported, and that any injured employees are provided both a safe and timely return to work

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Institute of Engineers Australia.
  • Eligible for ARTC Major Construction Verification or Supervisor competency.
  • Knowledge of or an awareness of work health and safety principles and relevant rail safety legislation.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in an organised, well ordered manner.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen.
  • Driver’s Licence – Class C

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  • Project experience in a multi-disciplinary environment.
    Sound knowledge of;
  • Railway systems.
  • Australian Standards for track infrastructure including the railway National Code of Practice.
