The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Project Engineer – Structures to play a key role in delivering this greenfield development. This is a site-based position on a 14:7 roster, where you will be at the forefront of project execution, overseeing structural works and ensuring delivery meets strict safety, quality, and schedule requirements.

As a Senior Project Engineer you will be working closely with project managers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll contribute to the successful completion of critical infrastructure that will transform freight connectivity across the nation. You’ll manage stakeholders, oversee contractors and consultants, and provide strategic, timely advice to support decision-making across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Support planning, design development, and delivery of the I2S project
  • Conduct site inspections and liaise with consultants and engineers
  • Manage inputs from project engineers supporting contractor activities
  • Review and validate scope, program, cost, and safety inputs
  • Monitor and report on contractor safety performance
  • Resolve site-related construction and engineering issues

The I2S section of Inland Rail involves the construction of 39km of new rail corridor and 3km of upgraded track between Illabo and Stockinbingal, NSW. Structural works scope includes 2 rail over road bridges, 8 bridges across waterways, and 1 road over rail bridge at Burley Griffin Way, along with multiple box culvert drainage and stock underpass structures.

About you

You will have experience in maintaining accurate project programs and plans, providing regular updates to senior leadership and preparing resource reports covering personnel, plant and equipment to ensure alignment with project management plans and timely delivery.

You should possess strong collaboration and influencing skills that help you build trusted relationships, while your adaptability and resilience enable you to navigate evolving project needs with confidence.

Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in bridge construction and culvert infrastructure at a senior level
  • Rail infrastructure experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Strong design coordination and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of WHS principles and rail safety legislation
  • Experience in major infrastructure project delivery
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and reporting skills
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
  • CPEng or eligibility to obtain
