About the opportunity

As the Senior Systems Assurance Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the systems engineering and assurance activities across the design, integration, and delivery phases of various Inland Rail projects, ensuring compliance with engineering, reliability, and performance standards. This includes verification and validation of the requirements and the management of these in accordance with the engineering framework. This role will support the efficient and timely assessment of projects at each engineering stage against set of assurance activities and conditions and make the recommendations to the Configuration Change Board in relation to compliance against the said conditions.  

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of systems engineering processes across the program lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., INCOSE, ISO/IEC 15288).
  • Accountable for the application of the Inland Rail Engineering Assurance processes; including required procedures, instructions and supporting tools throughout the assigned projects.
  • Manage verification and validation activities, including test planning, execution, and evidence collation for certification purposes.
  • Identify, report, and mitigate technical risks associated with system integration and operational readiness.
  • Effective identification of system interfaces between disciplines to ensure seamless integration and interoperability.  
  • Adherence to regulatory requirements, standards, and Inland Rail’s assurance framework.
  • Develop and finalise an Assurance Agreement with the respective project delivery leadership and ensure implementation of all elements of the agreement throughout the delivery. 
  • Performance of engineering and systems assurance for assigned projects.
  • Performance of Verification and Validation activities of all requirements assigned to the project/s and produce assurance reporting and recommendations for the required governance forums.  
  • Accountable for the application of the Inland Rail Engineering Assurance processes; including required procedures, instructions and supporting tools throughout the assigned projects.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent. 
  • CPEng, RPEQ, or INCOSE CSEP certification (or working towards) is required. 
  • In-depth knowledge of systems engineering principles including assurance, requirements and verification and validation in design and construction environments.
  • Proven experience working on multi-disciplinary rail projects including the development of systems engineering processes. 
  • High-level conceptual and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyse complex issues, and generate creative solutions to deal with organisational problems and opportunities.
