The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As this exciting major infrastructure project continues to grow across Australia, and due to a recent internal promotion Inland Rail have an opportunity for a Stakeholder Engagement Lead based in the Wagga region.

The main focus of this role is to support the Inland Rail program through effective delivery of stakeholder and community engagement for the region.

Reporting to the Manager Stakeholder Engagement & Communications: Albury-Parkes, this position will be a key member of the community and project.  As the Stakeholder Engagement Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of best practice community and stakeholder engagement plans, providing advice on the approvals process, emerging issues and drive necessary engagement with communities and other stakeholders to identify solutions. You will also be involved in representing the business in community forums, developing communications materials and engaging with local government and media.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage with Councils, landowners, Government agencies, community and industry associations and develop or refine community engagement plans to support consultation and engagement.
  • Support the development of collateral including project newsletters, fact sheets, project updates, media releases, FAQs for website and print.
  • Identify issues, risks and opportunities and provide appropriate strategies.
  • Support securing of land access and acquisition process where appropriate.
  • Provide executive officer support functions for any ‘Community Liaison Groups’ or similar established by Inland rail or by Government for Inland Rail, in line with planning approvals pathway.
  • Advise the Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Manager of outcomes or issues arising from Project review meetings, project workshops, key stakeholder workshops, community liaison group meetings, and service providers forums.
  • Assist in managing responses to the feedback received through statutory and other consultation processes.
  • Lead and support engagement that is transparent, equitable and accessible, with adequate opportunities for stakeholders to comment and all interactions are appropriately managed and recorded
  • Build relationships with stakeholders that promote effective dialogue with the Inland Rail Program team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Construction contractor to deliver engagement outcomes in line with the projects Environmental conditions of approval.
  • Lead key local engagement events and opportunities for the project.

About you

To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong experience in stakeholder and community engagement ideally within the infrastructure, transport or logistic sectors
  • Working knowledge and understanding of digital media and digital technologies to support community engagement
  • Demonstrated team leadership experience
  • High level verbal and written skills including the writing and delivery of strategies, plans and communications materials
  • Demonstrated issues and risk management on complex projects
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders in politically sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving skills, with a capacity to respond to and manage changing priorities
