New Albury Station pedestrian bridge design unveiled

Albury residents will today get their first look at the proposed design for the new Albury Station pedestrian bridge, with Inland Rail releasing new visualisations for public viewing.

The new, elevated bridge structure will allow double-stacked trains to pass safely underneath and will connect to the existing highway pedestrian bridge.

A dedicated rest area between the footbridges will offer pedestrians a place to pause in their journey across the rail corridor, with bench seating and signage displaying historical information about the railway precinct.

Selected existing posts from the original pedestrian bridge will be salvaged and incorporated into the design, connecting past and present.

The new bridge structure will feature ramps on both sides designed to meet the accessibility standards of the 1992 Disability Discrimination Act, ensuring safe and inclusive access for all users.

Developed in close collaboration with the NSW Government and Albury City Council, the new bridge has also been reviewed by the NSW State Design Review Panel – an independent group of built environment experts who assess the quality and functionality of major infrastructure projects.

Community members are invited to view the pedestrian bridge design and speak with project representatives at the following drop-in sessions on Thursday 28 August:

  • 7:30 am – 9 am at Albury Train Station, Railway Parade, Albury
  • 11:30 am – 1:30 pm at Table Top Community Centre, 525 Burma Road, Table Top
  • 3 pm – 5:30 pm at West End Plaza, 487 Kiewa Street, Albury

Malcolm Clark, Inland Rail Project Director for Albury to Illabo, said:

‘The new Albury Station pedestrian bridge will be safer and more accessible, improving connectivity for all pedestrians.

‘Throughout our engagement with the Albury community, we heard that safety, accessibility and connectivity were key priorities, and we’ve made sure those elements are central to the final bridge design.

‘We’ll continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses toward construction.’
