Narromine to Narrabri section update: Autumn 2026
Since our last update in mid-December, we’ve made solid progress across the Narromine to Narrabri section of Inland Rail. We’ve been out in the community, kept refining engineering designs, and mapped out our next round of site investigations, starting after Easter.
Narromine to Narrabri: Managing flooding impacts
Inland Rail crosses many watercourses and floodplains between Narromine and Narrabri. Managing water flows and reducing flooding impacts is a priority as we refine our engineering designs. To achieve this, we follow three steps during project development and design refinement.
Narromine to Narrabri: What’s ahead in 2026
Our momentum will keep building, with a busy roster of works planned for 2026. These activities, which are endorsed by the Australian Government, will help us finalise project scope and cost for future government consideration.

Refining our construction requirements: Narromine to Narrabri section
Since receiving planning approvals in early 2024, we’ve gained a better understanding of the Narromine to Narrabri section’s alignment. As a result, we’ve reviewed and refined our construction requirements. Some of these changes will require a planning approval modification, which we intend to submit to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) in 2026.
Celebrating women in engineering: Swati Verma and Lauren Best share their journeys
Our Northern NSW engineering design team is very proud of the fact that half the team is represented by talented women who are making an invaluable contribution to Inland Rail’s latest design refinements in the region.
Narromine to Narrabri: June 2025 update
The Narromine to Narrabri project is powering ahead, with major field investigations nearly complete and new local team members on board. We’re also hitting the road to connect with communities at local shows—come say hi at the Narromine Show in August.
Narromine to Narrabri Newsletter – Autumn 2025
Autumn edition of the Narromine to Narrabri quarterly printed newsletter, distributed in March 2025, which keeps alignment communities updated about the latest project news and important milestones at Inland Rail.
Upcoming geotechnical investigations
In April and May, teams from our contractors Minstaff Survey and CMW Geosciences are completing site investigations on private land potentially suitable for borrow pits (or small quarries) and identifying the location of various services such as water pipes, electric cables, fibre optic cables, gas pipes, drainage and sewage pipelines across Narromine, Gilgandra and Baradine and Narrabri.
