Euroa students ‘name the cranes’ helping build Inland Rail
Hookey, Drifter and Bobby the Bob are the creative names Euroa students have chosen for three of the cranes constructing the upgraded Euroa Station precinct.

With multiple cranes working onsite in October, students from Euroa and St John’s primary schools and Euroa Kindergarten were invited by Inland Rail’s construction partner John Holland to put on their creative construction hats to ‘name the cranes’.
After much deliberation from the John Holland team, three winners were announced from the 130 entries.
- Marley, from Euroa Kindergarten, named the Wagstaff green crane Hookey. This crane is being used to lift the piling cages into place for the new pedestrian underpasses, vehicle underpass and new station platform.
- Katelyn, from Euroa Primary School, named the 800-tonne crane which was the largest onsite, Bobby the Bob. This crane was used to lift sections of the new and improved station pedestrian underpass into place.
- Paige, from St John’s Primary School, named the 140-tonne mini crane Drifter. That crane has the important job of building Bobby the Bob.
The students were joined by school friends and family at the Euroa work site to crown the cranes with their new names.
Inland Rail is transforming the Euroa Station precinct with safer and accessible pedestrian underpasses, a new station forecourt and relocated track and platform connected to additional carparking.
These works, including a new vehicle underpass at Anderson Street, will provide sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.
