Illabo to Stockinbingal: Connecting with the next generation

Throughout October and November, students from public schools along the Illabo to Stockinbingal alignment experienced what it’s like to be part of a construction team.

A number of students lined up in two rows wear high visibility safety vests and hard hats, with adults standing nearby, in a classroom-style photo outside.

Members of the John Holland and Inland Rail teams visited schools where students learned about personal protective equipment (PPE), site safety, and the machinery used on the project.

They also joined Environment Advisor Trent Doyle to see how noise levels are monitored and asked Senior Project Manager Tim Cook some insightful questions about the work underway and what’s to come.

In Cootamundra, two preschoolers even stopped by the Community Information Centre to share their own tips on building a railway with Commercial Manager Eddie Lesui – a fun reminder that curiosity starts early!

These visits are a great way to connect with local communities and inspire the next generation about careers in construction and infrastructure.
