Inland Rail ensures CFA can continue operations during bridge closure
Inland Rail is providing a new temporary base for the Broadford Country Fire Authority (CFA) during works to replace the Hamilton Street bridge in Broadford.
July 29, 2025
The site, on a vacant block of land on the High Street, will assist CFA to maintain emergency response times during the Inland Rail works on Hamilton Street bridge.
Inland Rail will install two buildings to provide facilities for CFA members, including bathrooms, change rooms and kitchen facilities.
There will also be a covered area where one emergency response vehicle will be stationed.
Hamilton Street bridge will be replaced and the railway tracks lowered to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to pass safely.
A new roundabout will also be built at the Hamilton and Ferguson Street intersection, and pedestrian connectivity will be improved with a new pedestrian path on the northern side of the bridge and a shared user path on the south.
Long term temporary traffic management with a lane closure is currently in place whilst works are undertaken on the bridge.
From Sunday 27 July, there will be a 48-hour bridge closure, with detours in place, when two beams for the new bridge are installed using a 650-tonne crane.

“It will enable crews to attend any emergency situation to the north of Broadford and ensure the safety of the community.
“We have been working closely with the Broadford community for many years, and we thank residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while we carry out works to replace the Hamilton Street bridge.”
