ICT Business Analyst

About the opportunity

Inland Rail is seeking an ICT Business Analyst to drive the delivery of fit-for-purpose, cost-effective solutions. Acting as a key liaison between business, technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders, you’ll define requirements, document processes, support solution design, and assess business impacts to enable strategic program outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and facilitate structured focus groups, workshops, and interviews as an input to business analysis activities for requirements elicitation.
  • Assess and critically analyse information gathered to develop requirements and prepare the relevant documentation according to business analysis principles.
  • Undertake current and future state business process analysis using BPMN process modelling to determine business requirements, information flows, and process improvements that streamline ICT and deliver benefits for the business.
  • Facilitate the design of technology solutions by gathering, analysing, and writing business requirements in functional and technical specifications.
  • Work with internal teams to obtain and document an in-depth understanding of the existing business processes and systems and how these are used.
  • Provide timely and expert advice regarding business requirements, system requirements, information requirements, business impacts, scope management, and project risks.
  • Use communication skills to negotiate, establish, and maintain networks and working relationships with team members, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Complete the testing cycle from documenting the test scripts, executing, documenting defects, and tracking defect’s close out to meet business requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a demanding professional environment with proven capacity to prioritise, multi-task, achieve unit goals, perform, and always work with a customer focused approach.

You will be able to demonstrate

  • Demonstrated business analysis skills and experience.
  • Experience in the development of business process, system and data maps and models and producing current and future state analysis.
  • Skills and experience in the elicitation and documentation of business and system requirements.
  • Solid understanding of business analysis principles and Agile methodologies, gap analysis, process modelling, data mapping, interface integration, and APIs; demonstrated ability to work in Scrum, Kanban, and other frameworks.
  • Understanding and application of the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK) principles and Prince2 project methodology.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and engagement skills to support extensive consultation on a diverse variety of considerations.
  • Experience in writing test cases and performing and co-ordinating testing activities, in particular, User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Analytical, problem-solving and research skills to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions to complex issues.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a demanding professional environment with proven capacity to prioritise, multi-task, achieve unit goals, perform, and always work with a customer focused approach
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft O365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) SharePoint and other technologies as required.

Desirable

  • Experience with Information Management including Engineering Data and Document Control.
  • PRINCE2, PMBOK, similar project management methodology qualifications.
  • Experience in software platforms that support large capital construction programs such as Asset and Property Management, Information and Document Management, Environment, Health and Safety, Engineering and Construction, Program and Project Management and Controls, HCM and Procurement.
