The Inland Rail Program is a 1600km rail infrastructure project stretching from Brisbane to Melbourne incorporating new and existing rail track. The program includes the upgrading of existing standard gauge track, the enhancement of existing standard gauge track to cater for double stacking and the construction of new standard gauge links comprising of viaducts, tunnels, rail track, crossings and bridges. About the opportunity

As a Project Engineer – Civil / Rail, you’ll play a hands-on role in driving complex projects forward, ensuring they’re delivered on time, on budget, and with lasting benefits for local economies and the environment.  Scope of works includes the delivery of rail track and systems upgrades, bridge replacements, road works, civil structures and third party utility modifications including aerial power crossings at multiple sites between Albury and Illabo in central NSW.

Flexible location options – Albury based (with temporary relocation if required, or FIFO (from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane)

Key responsibilities may include:

  •  Actively facilitating the safe and compliant delivery of the project works.
  • Ensuring project delivery schedule targets and planning requirements are met.
  • Monitor and report on contractor performance and progress of operational readiness, quality, safety and environmental objectives.
  • Coordinate across the delivery team and broader Inland Rail project team to ensure a consistent, compliant and strategic approach to delivery planning and documentation.
  • Coordinate with the project’s independent verifier in the undertaking of their role.
  • Assist with the administration, engagement and compliance with third party agreements with key project stakeholders such as state, local government agencies and utilities authorities.
  • Assist with the establishment and administration of property and access agreements.
  • Monitor various consultants and contractors involved in the project and the overall Inland Rail Programme
  • Assist the ITC contractor in the development, coordination, compliance and review of works and documentation to ensure safety and quality expectations are achieved
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, correspondence and submissions to gain approvals, both internally and externally, at various management delegations. 
  • Assist in the administration of contracts including assessment and estimating tasks, validation of claims and finalisation of contract documentation.

To succeed in this role, you will be a strong communicator with great interpersonal skills, a strategic thinker, collaborative, adaptable and be able to influence positive outcomes for the project.  You will need to demonstrate great communication and presentation skills as this role is pivotal in collaboration with various key internal and external stakeholders.

Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate:

  • Degree in civil engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of large, complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects. Previous experience in brownfield rail or road projects will be highly regarded.  
  • Demonstrated experience working with third party agreements, deeds, licences. Previous experience administering agreements that interface with state, local government and utilities authorities will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in an organised, well-ordered manner. 
  • Highly developed written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed problem resolution and interpersonal skills. 
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen. Previous experience working on large, complex shared-risk, alliance or PPP projects will be highly regarded.
  • Sound knowledge of contractor management practices.
  • Experience in operational readiness and completions processes. Previous experience managing and working with ‘T-minus’, operational readiness and handover procedures will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working to ARTC and TfNSW Standards and Specifications.
