Wandong’s new bridge to be craned into place

The new Broadford-Wandong Road bridge in Wandong will be craned into place mid-February, marking an important milestone for the Inland Rail project.

Made up of 41 girders in total and assembled on-site, the new bridge is 35m long, 14.5m wide and weighs approximately 246 tonnes.

It will be craned into place by a 600-tonne crawler crane.

The existing Broadford-Wandong Road bridge will be demolished once the new bridge is open to traffic later this year.

We’re replacing the bridge in Wandong to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to use the rail line.

The new bridge will improve safety, connectivity and amenity, with a new shared use path, intersection improvements and the addition of open community space extending to Pickett Walk.
