Border to Gowrie section update November 2023
Since our last update in June, in line with the Australian Government’s Independent Review of Inland Rail recommendations, work has progressed on key areas of the NSW/Qld Border to Gowrie section’s revised draft EIS for submission to Queensland’s Coordinator-General.

The Australian Government has confirmed that Inland Rail is an important project to meet Australia’s growing freight task, improve road safety and help decarbonise our economy.
We are now taking a staged approach to deliver Inland Rail. For sections north of Narromine and into Queensland, our focus is gaining all environmental approvals and securing land required for the Inland Rail corridor.
Revised draft EIS update
Work continues on the NSW/Qld Border to Gowrie revised draft Environmental Impact Statement (rdEIS) as we prepare additional information for submission to the Coordinator-General.
Local feedback is helping to inform the rdEIS to ensure we are mitigating impacts on local communities wherever feasible.
What’s happening in the field
Over recent months, we have undertaken surveys on ecological communities, including flora and fauna, across the NSW/Qld Border to Gowrie section. The surveys are mapping the location of threatened ecological communities and species habitat, helping to understand how construction may impact and will ultimately guide design considerations to reduce these impacts wherever possible.
