Construction activities will be undertaken at multiple locations across the region, including:

Albury

Works at the Murray River bridge will include replacement of the remaining two top chords, along with the installation of walkways and refuge bays within the rail corridor.

Signalling upgrades will be undertaken at Albury Yard, alongside construction of pile caps, columns and landings to support the new Albury Station footbridge.

At Billy Hughes bridge, crews will lower and slew the existing track, as well as relocate track and signalling equipment.

At the Riverina Highway bridge, crews will install a track diversion loop and rebuild the Main Line track, as well as remove and divert signalling cables.

A temporary footbridge will be installed in preparation for the future demolition of the Cassidy footbridge. The Cassidy footbridge will remain open, with the new temporary access ramp on the northern side accessible from Fox Street.

Piling and excavation for new bridge abutments and pier footings will occur at Edmondson Street bridge. Piling works and new drainage installations will also be carried out at Pearson Street.

Junee

Piling and the construction of the concrete piers for the new Kemp Street bridge will continue, along with the removal of the Junee Station footbridge and signal gantry.

More information on upcoming track works is available on the Albury to Illabo works notification page.

An Inland Rail spokesperson said:

“This extended track closure provides a critical window to safely deliver complex construction activities across multiple sites.

“We thank local communities for their patience and cooperation as we deliver infrastructure that will provide lasting benefits for regional New South Wales and the national freight network.”

Inland Rail is a 1,600km fast freight rail line, now under construction, that will link Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.  The route has been divided into 12 sections, to allow for a staged delivery of the open-access fast freight rail line.
