Inland Rail unlocks opportunities to live local, work local

Regional workers are benefitting from employment opportunities, thanks to the Inland Rail project.

Commitment to local employment and working with local suppliers and businesses by our construction partner McConnell Dowell has delivered huge benefits for communities and businesses in regional towns.

Approximately 1,570 local residents from across the region have been employed on Beveridge to Albury Tranche 1, including 488 from Wangaratta.

Isaac Smith and Thomas Liphuyzen are local engineers from the Wangaratta region who were employed by McConnell Dowell.

Watch the video as they share how they helped deliver infrastructure upgrades that will benefit their local regionnow and into the future.

Born and raised in Wangaratta, Mr Smith said the benefits to Wangaratta had been “significant for the community”.

“It’s not often that you have a major project come to your small regional town or city,” he said.

Mr Liphuyzen said working close to home had been great and meant he could be home every night.
