Glenrowan
Inland Rail is a 1600km freight rail line connecting Melbourne and Brisbane that will transform how goods are moved around Australia.
In Victoria we’re upgrading 262km of existing rail line between Beveridge and Albury at 12 sites, including Glenrowan, to allow double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably.

Replacement of the Beaconsfield Parade bridge is now complete.
In Glenrowan, the Beaconsfield Parade bridge has been replaced with a new higher bridge to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains to pass safely.
After 12 months of hard work, the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge in the heart of Glenrowan was officially opened on 1 March 2024. See how the new bridge came to life.
Community feedback
We’ve been working closely with the Glenrowan community on design options since 2018.
Feedback from stakeholders, community members, heritage specialists and Heritage Victoria led us to determine that a new bridge is the best option.
Based on community feedback we’ve:
- incorporated a network of walking paths to improve access between key heritage sites and Gladstone Street
- built an open span bridge to provide better accessibility, visibility and connectedness across the precinct area
- separated the road and shared use path across the Beaconsfield Parade bridge to improve safety and accessibility
- included additional car parking and a dedicated bus area
- upgraded the pathway along Beaconsfield Parade, adjacent to Ann Jones Inn, to benefit school children, residents and tourists.
