Inland Rail secures NSW state approval for Narrabri to North Star Phase 2
Inland Rail’s Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 section has received New South Wales government approval, marking a significant milestone for the project with all New South Wales sections now formally approved by the state government.
Design work resumes on Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 (Tapscott Road to Alice Street) segment
In June, our newly appointed Design Services partners Arcadis and BG&E Joint Venture resumed engineering design work on the 8km stretch of the Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 section between Tapscott Road and Alice Street (also known as Stage 2C).
Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 section update: Spring 2025
We’ve had a busy few months since our last update, completing investigations and finalising environmental planning approvals. We’ve also taken the next steps towards further refining engineering designs for the Narrabri to North Star Phase 2 section.
Narrabri to North Star Phase 2: June 2025 update
Environmental approvals are being finalised and field investigations are scheduled to wrap up by late August. Work on refining engineering designs will commence in the third quarter of 2025.

In 2021, Inland Rail partnered with Engineers Australia to build our Graduate Development Program, enabling the best young minds to contribute to Australia’s largest rail infrastructure project. Four years later, a top recruit has graduated as a Project Engineer and is now working on site, supporting the Northern NSW team.
Inland Rail reaches Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 biodiversity offset target
Inland Rail has met a key environmental target of its Australian and New South Wales Government approvals for the completed Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 project, with the retirement of 20,461 biodiversity credits, compensating for impacts to native vegetation on the project.

In our final update for 2024 we bring you the latest news on our progress towards gaining environmental approvals, celebrate this year’s achievements and preview what’s coming up in 2025. As we head into the festive season, we want to thank all our stakeholders and the wider community for supporting us during another busy year.
Operational noise at-property treatment installations kick off
Last month, we started installing at-property noise mitigation treatments at residences along the Narrabri to North Star Phase 1 section. At time of writing, we finished work at 10 of 40 properties identified as requiring treatment.
