Inland Rail begins construction of Tranche 2 sites in Victoria

Major construction on the eight remaining Beveridge to Albury Inland Rail work sites is set to begin, with the commencement of works in Euroa this week.

Inland Rail’s Beveridge to Albury Tranche 1 projects are nearing completion and Tranche 2 sites at Euroa, Broadford, Benalla, Wandong, Tallarook and Seymour are all set to turn their first sod in the coming weeks.

Inland Rail and construction partner John Holland will begin work on four bridge replacements, a vehicle underpass, railway track lowers and railway station modifications to allow sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains.

In Euroa, John Holland will begin construction of the new vehicle underpass, which requires the closure and demolition of the Anderson Street bridge. The bridge will be closed to traffic on Thursday 8 May and motorists will need to detour via Brock, Campbell and Birkett streets.

Modifications of the Euroa railway station precinct will also commence with the demolition of the Handbury Street pedestrian underpass, construction of temporary pathways and approved tree and vegetation removal.

Construction will soon follow at other sites, including the bridge replacements at Broadford and Wandong, a station modification at Benalla and track lowers under the Hume Freeway at Tallarook and Seymour.

Ed Walker, Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Delivery Director said:

“The start of major construction on the Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 sites marks an important milestone for the Inland Rail project.

“We have worked with John Holland, state agencies and local communities to prepare designs and develop construction plans – now it’s time to start building.

“We thank local communities for their involvement with the project to date and for their patience, understanding and cooperation as we carry out the work.”

Steve Butcher, Managing Director Rail & Transport, John Holland said:

“As we kick off major construction on Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 we’re focused on continuing our relationship with the local communities to ensure we leave a long-lasting legacy for the region.

“We’re committed to working in partnership with local and First Nations businesses to create meaningful opportunities that deliver lasting benefits for individuals, their families and their communities.”
