Broadford
Inland Rail is a 1600km freight rail line connecting Melbourne and Brisbane that will transform how goods are moved around Australia.
In Victoria we’re upgrading 262km of existing rail line between Beveridge and Albury at 12 sites, including Broadford, to allow double-stacked freight trains to pass safely and ensure everyday products can be delivered faster and more reliably.

2025: A year of achievements and progress
Inland Rail has marked 2025 as a year of major milestones for the Beveridge to Albury section, driving progress towards the operation of double-stacked trains in 2027.
Some of the biggest achievements to provide sufficient clearance for double-stacked freight trains have been made in Broadford, with the new Short Street and Hamilton Street bridges installed.
The tracks have also been lowered under Hamilton Street and the existing bridge removed.

Community feedback
We’ve worked with community, stakeholders and technical specialists to develop, review and determine the best solution for Hamilton Street.
During our engagement we’ve heard connectivity and safety are important and we’ve updated the design to deliver these outcomes.
Based on this feedback, we are:
- improving connectivity with a shared user path and pedestrian access
- lowering the track to reduce the height of the new bridge
- changing the road layout to improve traffic flow and safety
- working to minimise disruption during construction
- adding landscaping and new seating areas.
The new bridge will comply with current safety standards and improve accessibility.
In late 2024 we shared the latest design and sought your preferences on a Broadford entry sign, landscaping and artwork opportunities.
The final plan for Broadford will be decided based on a range of feedback sources including community input. It is also subject to acceptance from relevant future asset managers.
